Description:
Longquan stoneware mortar and pestle. The mortar is bowl-shaped, with carved overlapping petals. The mortar has glossy grey-green glaze on the exterior. The dome-ended pestle has greenish-grey glaze on the handle.

The inside is unglazed as on e might expect. Archaeologists excavated a similar mortar bowl and pestle in 1975 from a tomb dated equivalent to AD1175 at Jishui county 吉水縣 on the Gan River near Ji’an city, Jiangxi province. It is debateable whether the pestle and mortar belong together as both are quite different in terms of both body and glaze colour.
