Bulbous water-jar (mizusashi) with lid. Made of porcelain with underglaze blue design of birds and flowers, and Daoist symbols in Shonzui style. Inscribed. Hirado ware.

Comments:This carefully painted water-jar is executed in the style of 17th-century Shonzui ware made in the Jingdezhen kilns, China for the Japanese market. The Shonzui style was revived in Japan from the late 18th century to the mid 19th century. The footring has two circular drill marks from recent testing. (N. C. Rousmaniere, 2015)
