Description:
Porcelain meiping carved in openwork and enamelled in the ‘fahua’ palette. This unusual porcelain meiping vase has rounded shoulders, a slim waist, a flared foot with bevelled edge and a partially glazed base. It is carved in openwork with a scene of an old man standing beyond his house, beneath a pine tree, watching for the arrival of a young servant carrying a ‘qin’, the stringed musical instrument which resembles a zither. The swirling clouds between the house and the servant suggest the end of the scene. Above is a border of peonies and leaves and below a band of lappets. All the decoration is in the palette used for fahua wares.
