Comments:Transferred from Oriental Department in 1979. British and Medieval Dept. Register, v.6, p.241 “Collected by Mr. Lester Betts during two years service with Government of Nepal.” Temporary Register (1861-1921), p.65 “Nepal collection, religious”. No Ethno. Dept. registration Slip. From Asia collections index card “Tibet”.The British Museum Register notes that this object was acquired by Mr Betts while in service with the Government of Nepal, and, for this reason it was grouped with his Nepalese and Tibetan objects. However, the mask closely resembles those made in Kerala (south India) for the protection of the home.
