Description:
Mask of Bhairava, the Terrifying One. The wild and uncontrollable nature of the god is demonstrated by the wide-open, staring eyes. Typically Shaiva elements are the serpent imagery (earrings, necklace and in the head-dress); the upstanding ringlets of matted hair; the third eye set in the forehead; the crescent moon in the hair and the skull imagery (in the hair and headdress). Made of repousse, gilded, painted and inset (semi-precious) bronze.
