Carved ivory libation cup with a scene of the noted calligrapher Wang Xizhi (303-361). He kept geese and was well-known for learning how to turn his wrist in writing from the observing the graceful bird’s neck. The scholar sits on a rock looking at two geese in the foreground. A child is peeping behind a banana palm.
