Description:
Yue stoneware lamp made in three parts with bear-shaped column and shallow upper bowl and lower dish. The lamp has a fine grey body and thin, olive green glaze, which has crazed. There is incising and pecking on column to suggest fur and moulded bands of decoration on bowl and dish. There are marks of five clay pads and three original legs which have been removed on the base.

The shallow bowl is supported on a column in the form of a crouching bear holding a fruit. This rests inside a dish which originally would have had three animal shaped feet. It is covered in a thin, olive-green glaze. The lamp was fired upright in the kiln on its base on six large supports. A related example with a Wu dynasty date equivalent to AD 265 has been excavated from a tomb at Qingliangshan, Nanjing.
