Description:
This heavily potted kendi [water pouring vessel] has a ribbed body and spout with a tall flaring neck and stands on a foot ring. It is painted in underglaze blue and iron-red with overglaze green, black and turquoise enamels. Around the body are three landscape vignettes showing a willow tree and pagoda; prunus tree; rocks and plants. The spout is decorated with lingzhi fungus and the neck with Dutch-style tulips which became a popular decorative motif in Chinese ceramics from the mid 17th century onwards. The rim is painted with two scrolling floral motifs and bands of spiraling key-fret and leaf scroll adorn the shoulder. The base is glazed.
