Description:
Lemon-shaped clay vessel, possibly imitating a Western Asian ampulla. The body of the vessel is decorated by six deeply incised lines running from the rim of the vessel to the base. Between these is an additional decorationg consisting of horizontal ridges and depressions. In the upper half of the vessel is a small round handle which is decorated with an appliqué monkey, leaning against the body of the vessel while playing a lute. The bottom of the vessel is small and flattened but not accurately enough for the vessel to stand on its own. The object was moulded using red clay and covered with a brown slip before being fired.
