Porcelain jar with flat cover. The jar has a white body and grey-toned glaze. There is a dragon chasing a flaming pearl incised around the body, and a diamond shape with ribbons (one of the Eight Buddhist Emblems) on the cover. There is a mark on the base.

This mark was used first in the Ming dynasty, Chenghua period (AD 1465–87) but only on jars. It may refer to the emperor himself who was called the Son of Heaven or perhaps it indicated the jar was to be used for a specific ritual or ceremonial purpose involving a celebration of heaven. This jar is an eighteenth century variant of a Ming dynasty form.
