Description:
Octagonal ovoid porcelain jar with thickened mouth rim. There are eight rectangular panels, each containing a cartouche panel with an inscription, in overglaze red, green and yellow enamel with kinrande gilding on the body, eight panels, each containing a ruyi lappet, on the shoulder, and a lotus scroll panel around the foot.

This decorative technique is known by the Japanese term 金襴手(‘kinrande gold brocade style’). The gold wears away from the porcelain which is why so much of the detail is missing from this wine ewer.
