Comments:Published PDF date : Ming 17th century Room 95 label text:PDF C606Jar decorated in pencilled stylePotters have decorated this jar with the theme of ‘One hundred children’ playing. Chinese people regard genre scenes of boys playing as auspicious, representing a wish for many sons. This style of painting on blue pigment in thin, sketchy, blue lines is often called the ‘pencilled style’ as opposed to a brush-style where the pigment is applied in thicker washes. The base carries the mark of a white hare.
