Description:
Eight-lobed porcelain jar with underglaze blue decoration. This heavily potted eight-lobed jar has a recessed base and a raised neck. The foot is thick and gritty and the base is glazed. It is painted in underglaze blue with the Three Friends of Winter – prunus, pine and bamboo – as well as other auspicious symbols: ‘lingzhi’ fungus and a pair of flying birds.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:Such ‘min yao’ jars were probably made over a long period, with little variation in the designs. A slightly smaller jar, one of three of this shape with similar decoration, was recovered from the Hatcher ship wreck, dating to about 1643.
