Description:
Large porcelain jar decorated in underglaze blue. This globular jar has an inturned neck which has been ground down. The recessed base has a broad foot ring and is unglazed except for a central circular depression which carries an underglaze blue six-character Wanli reign mark. It is decorated with five-clawed winged dragons on a ‘ruyi’ scroll ground above a border of ‘ruyi’ heads and below a ring of alternating white and blue lappets around the neck. With wooden lid in the shape of the top of a fruit.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:Such large jars were extremely difficult to fire without warping in the kiln and are a testimony to the technical virtuosity of the Jingdezhen potters in the late Ming period.
