Description:
Jacket; part of girl and woman’s festival costume As.1998.1.192 to 195. Base cloth of bought cotton cloth dyed dark blue. Sleeves formed by strips of decoration. Back decorated with black satin damask in roundel design, with lower front of black corduroy. Neck and front facings with numerous strips of different coloured cloths, sometimes couched. Sleeve decorated with bought ribbon, black damask and multi-coloured applied cloths, with bands of patterning in wax resist and over-painting with orange dye; pattern bands of curved diamonds with circle motifs and a curvilinear floral motif design with borders. Cuffs of layers of red and green bought cotton cloth.
