Comments:Published PDF date : Qing Room 95 label text:PDF 133Stick incense holder in the form of an elephantPotters in the late Ming and Qing dynasties made copies of Ding wares at Jingdezhen in Jiangxi province, Zhangzhou in Fujian province and in other southern kilns. This incense-stick holder (one of a pair) is modelled in the form of a caparisoned elephants (saddled with a blanket and wearing bridles). Potters at Zhangzhou underfired the body below porcelain temperature. It is chalky white or ‘rice–coloured’ and potters covered it either with a white slip and a thin transparent glaze with a yellowish cast that crackled during the cooling process or with an opaque white glaze. Connoisseurs once called this type of ceramic 土定 (tu ding ‘earthen Ding ware’). Underfired porcelain with incised and applied details and clear glaze, fitted with cloisonné enamel incense holder Zhangzhou ware 漳州窯Zhangzhou, Fujian province 福建省, 漳州, cloisonné made in Beijing 北京Qing dynasty, cloisonné: Qianlong mark and period, AD 1736–1795 PDF 133白釉象形香插自晚明至清,江西景德鎮、福建漳州及其他一些南方窯口的陶工都仿燒定窯器物。
