It has elephant head-shaped handles and inscriptions in underglaze blue on either side. On one side these read 聖廟祭器 (Shengmiao jiqi ‘Sacrificial vessel for the Confucian Temple’) and 大明天啟丁卯年造 (Da Ming Tianqi dingmao nian zao ‘made in the dingmao year of the reign of the Tianqi emperor of the Ming dynasty [AD 1627]).
