Comments:Rawson 1992:This is one of the earliest fine printed books of the late Ming, with full-page illustrations. Although in all but a few editions the designs were by anonymous artisans and the actual printing was carried out by a different group of unnamed individuals, greater credit was given to the cutters of the woodblocks, whose names are frequently included in the illustrations. The leading cutters belonged to the Huang and Wang clans from Anhui province. This book illustrates 60 maxims or rules and exemplary deeds of imperial heirs drawn from history. It was compiled as moral instruction for the emperor Zhu Changluo, who reigned for one year in 1620. The Yangzheng tujie uses pictorial compositions by the figure painter Ding Yunpeng, who was invited to Nanjing especially to be involved in the compilation.
