Comments:The shape of the foremast, the presence of three smokestacks and its relative size suggest that the ship at right is the Imperial Japanese Navy vessel Hatsuse (初瀬): laid down 10 January 1898, launched 27 June 1899, commissioned at Armstrong Elswick shipyard (Newcastle, UK) 18 January 1901, sunk by a mine off Lushun 15 May 1904; specifications: length 121.9 m, width 23.3 m, draft 8.2 m, displacement 15,000 tons, speed 18.0 kt.; armed with two 30cm twin-barrel guns and fourteen 15cm single-barrel guns. Based on the title, the scene probably depicts the fourth attack on Lushun (Port Arthur). The squadron consisted of five ships: Mikasa, Asahi, Shikishima, Hatsuse, and Yashima.(Admiral Takei Tomohisa, Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force, 10/2015)
