Comments:Lui Shou-kwan (1919-1975) is a pioneer of the New Ink Art movement in Hong Kong. This painting represents Lui’s more traditional style. Painted in 1961, it depicts the artist’s idyllic impression of Shau Kei Wan, a neighbourhood in the Eastern District of Hong Kong Island. Now a densely populated residential district, it was once home to shantytown settlements, as seen in the painting.
