Comments:This slender hairpin tapering to a sharp point at one end is flat on one surface with two long vertical grooves at the sharp end with a dumbbell design and a square with finely incised curls at the other end. On the rounded underside the sides are bevelled at the pointed end with two horizontal bands of grooves at the top end. Warring States. See Rawson 1995, p.280, cat.no.18.8. Eastern Zhou or Han period. This slender hairpin is neatly and precisely worked. At the top is a modelled knob above a rectangular section, bowed and grooved on the reverse. Below this is a straight portion, also bowed on the reverse and also with some grooves. The rest of the pin, which tapers to a point, is flat on the front with two parallel indentations. The back is rounded, but faceted. There is little clue as to the date of this piece. However, the paired incised scrolls on the rectangular panel below the modelled tip suggests a date in the Han period.
