Description:
Large hollow porcelain garden seat of drum form, with wide pierced waist. Openwork piercing and underglaze blue with carved blue dragon enclosing a flaming pearl on the top. Wide band of dragons in ogival panels below, and large band of pierced overlapping rings around middle, with dense pattern of scrolling leaves and flowers.

This type of zuodun stool is often called a garden seat in English but they were made for both indoor and outdoor use. Gardens and courtyards are integral to traditional Chinese buildings. Barrel-shaped stools were made in cane from the Song to the Qing dynasty.
