Description:
Earthenware architectural finial modelled in the form of a ‘shou’ character with blue and green glaze. This architectural finial is in the form of a three-dimensional ‘shou’ character ewer, meaning longevity. Its spout is in the form of a dragon’s head and neck and its handle is fashioned after a fish-dragon’s tail. At the top is a finger citron, supported by a peach on either side. On one side the ‘shou’ character is formed in cursive script and on the other the same word is written using elements shaped like chi dragons with ‘ruyi’ tails. At the base is a faceted jar. There is a cone-shaped hole in the unglazed base for attachment to a peg to fasten it to a roof.
