Porcelain ewer in the form of an elongated pomegranate with branch-shaped spout with applied leaves and star-shaped mouth rim. Underglaze blue with bulb-shaped panels with insects among flowers and open pomegranate fruits. Cloud and ruyi-shaped motifs on upper section. Base unglazed.

As demand for the court declined, Jingdezhen potters eagerly accepted orders from middle-class customers in China, as well as exporting wares to Europe and Japan. Workers mined new sources of inferior-quality clay. This clay had a less good fit with the glaze and is characterised by tiny frits (chips) where the glaze is thin such as at the rim.
