Comments:Published PDF date : Ming 16th century Room 95 label text:PDF 704Wine ewer in the form of a woman with kinrande decorationThis polychrome ewer is decorated with areas of overglaze iron-red enamel over which potters have placed cut out gold foil which they then incised and fired at a low temperature. This decorative technique is known by the Japanese term 金襴手 (kinrande ‘gold brocade style’). The gold wears away from the porcelain which is why so much of the detail is missing from this wine ewer.Porcelain with overglaze red, turquoise and green enamels, and gilding (replacement lid)Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province A similar ewer with the mark fu gui jia qi is in the Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka, Japan.
