Comments:There is a list of descriptions of the subjects inserted in the front of the album. This drawing is described as: “63 A Fishermans Boat with a contrivance for raising the net. Vide the Costume of China.” Plate 28 (aquatint) in “The Costume of China” (published 1805; etched lettering under image: “W. Alexander f” and “London Publish’d Oct.r 19. 1800, by G & W Nicol. Pallmall”) depicts a similar boat, though the shelter on the boat in the BM watercolour is raised to a canopy in the print. In this latter, the net is also wholly out of the water, there are more figures engaged in differing activities and both land and Poyang lake are depicted behind the boat.
