Comments:There is a list of descriptions of the subjects inserted in the front of the album. This drawing is described as: “66. Three vessels taken while lying at anchor in the river of Ning-po – Vide the Costume of China.” Plate 12 (aquatint) in “The Costume of China” (published 1805; etched lettering under image: “W. Alexander fecit” and “London Publish’d May 1.st. 1798. by G: Nicol. Pallmall”). Alexander’s accompanying text explains that some of the Embassy travelled in the large ship on the right, the middle ship was an empty trading ship and smallest ship on the left was used for carrying baggage.For further information about the album, see comment for 1865,0520.193.
