Comments:There is a list of descriptions of the subjects inserted in the front of the album. This drawing is described as: “72 A trading Ship, at anchor – Vide the Costume of China.” Plate 8 (aquatint) in “The Costume of China” (published 1805; etched lettering under image: “W. Alexander fecit” and “London Publish’d Oct.r 12.th 1797. by G Nicol. Pallmall,”), entitled “Portrait of a Trading Ship”. This print. shows the boat from the opposite side. There are minor variations in colour, probably due to the transformation from watercolour to print, and a small rowing boat is included alongside the large ship in “The Costume of China” plate. For further information about the album, see comment for 1865,0520.193.
