Large porcelain serving dish with bracket-lobed rim and underglaze red decoration. The dish is painted under the glaze with copper oxide in solution which has fired, for the most part, dull grey. Surrounding a central medallion of three large and two small tree-peony blooms are sixteen single lotus alternately in full bloom and turning into seed pods; the rim is decorated with foliage scroll. The outside is ornamented on the walls with the same lotus as in the cavetto and underneath the rim is a wave border. The base is unglazed and has fired a streaky brick-red.
