Comments:Harrison-Hall and Krahl 1994:The armorial device in the centre belongs to the Scottish Grant family. The service to which this large dish belonged was commissioned by Sir James Grant (1679-1747; Howard, 1974, p. 242). ‘CRAIG ELACHIE’ is a place in Scotland overlooking the Spey River at Aviemore where the Grant family traditionally assembled in times of crisis and this is symbolized by the family crest (ibid.).
