Comments:Published PDF date : Qing Yongzheng 1723-1735 Room 95 label text:PDF B585 Aubergine glazed dishThis brownish-purple glaze, the tint of the skin of an aubergine or egg-plant, derives its colour from manganese pigment. It was probably first used in the Xuande era (AD 1426–35) as evidenced by a tripod incense burner in the National Palace Museum, Taipei. It is rather runny and ideally suited to add over an incised design as the glaze pools into the recessed lines, creating a contrasting pattern.
