Description:
Porcelain dish with bracket-lobed rim and ‘kraak’-type underglaze blue decoration. This shallow dish has rounded sides, a flat upturned rim with a bracket-lobed edge and a low gritty foot. Inside it is painted in underglaze blue with three spotted deer in a stylized landscape with flowers and peaches, surrounded by a double ring. The rim shows a repeated frieze of cranes in a lotus pond. The outside has sketchily painted flower scrolls.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:Similar dishes with decoration of deer were recovered from the San Diego, a Spanish warship that sank on 14 December 1600 (see BM Franks. 1579). An almost identical dish is in the Topkapi Saray Museum, Istanbul. Another similar dish cited by Krahl is in the Ardebil shrine, but this shows two rather than three deer.
