Comments:Published PDF date : Ming Xuande 1426-1435 Room 95 label text:PDF A606 Dish with dragonsThis saucer-dish is painted in underglaze blue with five-clawed dragons and clouds against an incised background of waves framed by a double ring. Outside similar dragons, clouds and evenly-spaced stylised rocks are shown against incised waves. Although this dragon pattern was reproduced throughout the later Ming and Qing dynasties on imperial porcelain, its quality was never matched. Generally details such as the ground of finely incised waves were omitted later. Potting in the Qing was more precise.
