Description:
Porcelain dish with underglaze blue decoration. This thickly potted blue-and-white dish has rounded sides and stands on a tapering gritty foot ring. Its base is slightly convex and only partially glazed. Inside it is painted with a sketchily drawn popular design of a phoenix on a rock beside a giant tree peony with stylized flower scrolls in the cavetto, outside with a blue line around the rim, all beneath a greenish-grey glaze.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:This ‘min yao’ dish was recovered from the cargo of the Hatcher wreck, datable to c. 1643 (see BM 1984.0303.11a and b).
