Description:
‘Swatow-type’ dish with underglaze blue decoration. This shallow dish has a low tapering foot and a broad upturned rim. It is painted in dull dark blue with a phoenix perched on one leg on a rock beside a tree peony. On the rim are four stylized flower cartouches surrounded by a fish-scale pattern. The foot ring is gritty. The dish has a beige glaze which is covered with a brown crackle and has curdled due to over-firing.
