Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:Chinese ceramics were elevated in status by the addition of a rim made from gold, silver or copper. In this case the brown glaze is applied to evoke metal and thus increase the piece’s value. This dish dates to the early part of the 15th century because of the way the base is cut. It is not official ware but made at the same kilns that fired ceramics for the Yongle court.
