Description:
Porcelain dish with bracket-lobed rim and ‘kraak’-type underglaze blue decoration. This dish has shallow rounded sides, a wide flat upturned rim with bracket-lobed edge and a gritty tapering foot. The central scene is a riverscape with two men sailing ‘sanpans’ past an island with a two-storey pavilion and a flag on one side and land with a seven-storey pagoda, temple and flag on the other. The rim is decorated with flowers, a frog, two birds and a squirrel. On the reverse is a repeated motif of a bird perched on a branch and floral scrolls.
