Description:
Porcelain dish with anhua moulded and incised decoration beneath a monochrome copper-red glaze. This shallow dish is arguably one of the finest items of Ming porcelain in the collection. It has rounded sides and an everted rim and stands on a low foot ring. It has anhua moulded decoration in the cavetto in low relief with two dragons chasing flaming pearls among ruyi clouds and with three incised clouds in the centre, following traditional styles of the Yuan and Hongwu periods. Inside and out it is covered with a dark speckled copper-red glaze which has bled away from the rim and edge of the foot, leaving the pure white porcelain body exposed. The base is covered with a blue-tinged transparent glaze.
