Other designs such as fruiting branches, the sun, clouds and details on the mens’ robes are painted in enamel colours. Outside two underglaze blue branches emanate from the rim and bear red fruit. The base has an underglaze blue four-character Tianqi reign mark in a double ring.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:Lu Dongbin and He Xiangu are two of the Eight Daoist Immortals. Lu Dongbin’s character is based on a historical figure, a scholar-recluse who lived in the Tang period and who attained immortality wandering around the world, combating evil. He Xiangu is the only consistently female immortal who, according to legend, was rescued by Lu Dongbin and then joined with the other immortals. An identical dish is in the Weishaupt Collection.
