Porcelain dish with underglaze blue decoration. This dish has rounded sides and a flat upturned rim with a low tapering foot. Its decoration is blurred and shows inside three cranes flying clockwise among ‘ruyi’ clouds with scroll work emblems in the well and a floral rim border, and outside five roundels encircling galloping horses and a rim border of five scrolling flowers and an undulating line around the foot. The sketchily written four-character mark on the base reads 大 明 年 造 ‘Da Ming nian zao’ [Made in the Ming dynasty].

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:A similar dish with a different border is in the Topkapi Saray Museum, Istanbul. Cranes are a common emblem of longevity with Daoist associations.
