Description:
Porcelain dish in underglaze blue decoration. Superficially identical to BM 1930.0421.8, this dish is distinctive in a number of ways. First it has a different shape with rounded sides, an everted rim and a tapering foot. The design of a prancing dragon is the same, but the creature has a thicker and more powerful body. There is a greater depth of shading to the cobalt blue. The rim also has a different border of classic scroll. Outside two dragons pursue flaming pearls among ‘ruyi’ clouds. A Hongzhi six-character reign mark is painted under the glaze on the base.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:A shard from an identical dish to this with the same type of plump dragon and with a Hongzhi reign mark was unearthed from the Ming remains at Zhushan, Jingdezhen.
