Comments:Published PDF date : Ming early-mid 17th century Room 95 label text:PDF 799Dish with a pair of cranesChinese people read this design of pine, bamboo and prunus as the 歲寒三友 (suihan sanyou ‘The Three Friends of Winter’). Pine trees are evergreen and grow for a long time, representing stability and longevity; bamboo, another evergreen, symbolises the educated Confucian, an ideal gentleman-scholar who should be like a bamboo stem, bending not breaking in adverse conditions; and the plum stands for purity as well as leadership, as it is the first flower to bloom in China in the New Year. The cranes are an emblem of long life. There is a four-character apocryphal Xuande reign mark in underglaze blue mark on the base.Porcelain with underglaze cobalt-blue mark and overglaze enamelsJingdezhen, Jiangxi province 江西省, 景德鎮Ming dynasty, about AD 1621–1627 PDF 799雙鶴紋盤中國人將松、竹、梅組成的紋飾圖案稱為“歲寒三友”(意為冬天的三位朋友)。
