Description:
Collared disc of opaque variegated dark green jade with root veining and a soft polish. The thinly worked and fractured disc has a flange on the inside rim of the otherwise undecorated disc.

Comments:Shang period, possibly western China. c.1200BC. This disc is very thin and smoothly worked and is cracked in one place. The inner collar is also fragile. Like 353 [2014,AsiaLoan,1.137] this disc seems to belong to the wide category of very fine thin discs found at Anyang and in the south-west. It is probable that some of these rather thin examples were made in areas outside Henan province. See Rawson 1995, p.166, cat.no.9.2. Early Shang. Diameter 120mm.
