Comments:This long slender blade has a raised rib down the centre, and its two edges are bevelled up to where the point is formed. Marking the junction with the tang is a band of incised criss-cross between two lines. The tang is divided into rows of parallel ridges by incised grooves, a form of decoration derived from the pattern of metal sections seen on an Erlitou bronze blade. There is a hole in the tang drilled from one side. The considerable length of this blade is similar to that of blades from Panlongcheng in Hubei province or from Xin’gan in Jiangxi. However the relatively early pieces have little, if any, decoration. The work on the tang of the present blade is characteristic of the variations that were employed at Anyang, as on a pieces in the tomb of Fu Hao. The very straight line of the blade is also characteristic of late Shang pieces. See Rawson 1995, p.194, cat.no.10.23.
