Description:
Porcelain stem cup with reserved and underglaze blue decoration. This delicately potted stem cup has rounded sides, an everted rim and a spreading stem with flat unglazed base. Inside in the centre it is inscribed in underglaze blue with a six-character Xuande reign mark in a double ring. Outside five powerful sinewy dragons are reserved in white with incised details on a ground of turbulent blue waves. Depth and texture are lent to the waves through the use of pale and dark washes of cobalt blue and are further highlighted by the crests which have been left white. The base is flat, solid and unglazed.
