Description:
This tall wine cup has sides which flare to the rim and a splayed foot ring. It is painted in doucai enamels. inside with a central medallion framing Shoulao, the god of longevity, in a garden holding a ruyi sceptre and seated on a deer, with an attendant. Outside is a procession of the ba xian [Eight Daoist Immortals]:Li Tieguai holding a gourd from which a magic vapour escapes and leaning on a stick, Lan Caihe carrying a basket of flowers, Zhang Guolao carrying a yugu a musical instrument comprising a cylindrical bamboo drum and two crutch shaped drum sticks, Han Xiangzi with a flute, Cao Guojin is brandishing castanets, Lu Dongbin is depicted with his magic sword strapped to his back, He Xiangnu is seen holding a lotus pod and Zhong Liquan who has the power to resurrect the dead through his possession of the elixir of life, is shown holding a peach with a bare belly and loose robes. The base carries an underglaze blue four character kaishu mark.
