Description:
Porcelain cup with deep rounded sides, straight mouth no foot-rim and slightly recessed base. The cup has a fine white body. There are flowering peonies in opaque pink, blue, green and browish yellow enamel, on a ground of mottled yellow on the exterior. There is a reign mark on the base.

Comments:Published PDF date : Qing Kangxi 1662-1722 Room 95 label text:PDF 837Cup with flowering peonies in falangcai-styleThe base has an apocryphal four-character blue enamel Kangxi reign mark but this cup is quite different from the genuine eighteenth century falangcai wares which you can see in the gallery. The enamels are much thicker and far coarser than was prepared for the Kangxi emperor.
