The white stone railings of this painting embrace the lotus pond, and the palace people appreciate the lotus and enjoy the cool. The woman leaned on several cases and sat with her feet up, looking calm and thoughtful. The male waiter holds a long handle barrier fan, which is decorated with phoenix, showing the lady’s noble status as empress concubine. On the low table on the left side, there are plenty of summer drinks and snacks. The round fan that has been put aside on several cases is alone, as if to tell the story of the cold palace, implying that he is a round fan from summer to autumn.
