Description:
A woman’s ceremonial coat (sleeveless) / over-gown, a ‘sikok’; ankle-length. Made from maroon tabby wool cloth with nap, commercially made. Centre front opening; square cut armholes. Narrow polychrome panels inserted either side of opening, near vents and wide panel at centre back [20 cms wide]. Narrow, weft faced tabby woollen bands in tones of red, pink, blue, green, purple and black. Wider white and yellow bands have red, blue and green crosses, (+), (patterning called, ‘thig ma’), seemingly tie-dyed. [See Curator’s Comments for As1992,16.1.] Orange/yellow brocaded silk cloth (with silver-coloured metal-wrapped thread) stitched to shoulders. Side vents and hemline piped with orange satin silk cloth. Coat lined with (unevenly dyed) blue tabby cotton cloth. Two blue silk braided loops stitched to back sides, at waistline. Small holes in woollen cloth.
