Description:
Coat or jacket; man or woman’s Guzhang festival costume. Geometrical, with nine free hanging panels. Base cloth of cotton, hand-spun, hand-woven indigo-dyed to almost black. With a small amount of manufactured green cotton. No collar, open at sides with two ties. Decorated with weave-patterned pieces applied to base cloth. Supplementary weft of silk on a foundation warp and weft of dark cotton. Embroidery of shallow diamonds; colours include green with pink, white and yellow. Chicken feathers set into folded-over black squares of indigo-dyed cloth suspended with glass beads.

Comments:Corrigan’s notes state that this is probably worn over market day best clothes, with ‘silver’ neck pieces and crowns – silver pendants also on front and back edge of jacket and on back.
